What Vehicles Can Be Exported?
For export from the US, a vehicle must have the appropriate title document. The title type determines whether the vehicle is eligible for international export.
Export is permitted for vehicles with the following titles:
- Clean — standard clear title;
- Salvage — declared a total loss by an insurance company;
- Rebuilt / Restored — repaired and retitled after a Salvage designation;
- Certificate of Title — standard ownership document.
Export is not permitted for vehicles with the following documents:
- BOS / Bill of Sale — proof of purchase only, no title; export from the US without additional documentation is not possible;
- Junk — vehicle declared a total loss and not eligible for restoration;
- Scrap — designated for scrapping only; repair and resale as parts are prohibited;
- Parts — sold without a title; export from the US is prohibited;
- Applied for (App) — title is pending; export is not possible until the document is issued;
- Lien — vehicle has an outstanding lien; the lot is sold to satisfy a debt.
Exception: export may be possible in certain cases with a MI Scrap Title (Michigan scrap ownership document) or an FL Certificate of Destruction (Florida destruction certificate).
