As with the majority of automobiles, we believe the mid-level trim gives the optimal blend of features and pricing. We suggest selecting the Premium Luxury model. It has a number of helpful driver aids, such as blind-spot monitoring, which compensate for the price increase.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 is the smallest and most affordable premium SUV produced by Cadillac. It began in 2019 and will continue uninterrupted through 2022. The XT4 may be smaller than vehicles like the Escalade, but it is one of the roomiest vehicles in its class, with ample space for both passengers and their belongings. Additionally, the entertainment system is simple to operate.

However, there are downsides as well. The ride is rough, and the engine is loud and crude-sounding. A premium SUV is expected to be more sophisticated. Other ultracompact SUVs, such as the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB, and Volvo XC40, provide a more enticing assortment of features. Check out our expert evaluation to discover the XT4's pros and disadvantages.
The 2022 Cadillac XT4 comes in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. These levels are mostly the same as last year. All three have a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all trims are available with all-wheel drive. Some of the most important parts of the standard features are:

Sports
The XT4's Sport trim level is mostly just a cosmetic package. In terms of features and options, it usually has the same things as the Premium Luxury trim. Among the changes:

The sport has the following options:
The XT4 has a lot of power – enough to go fast – but it starts slowly (0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds in our tests) and at higher speeds. The XT4 tries to be sporty, but the steering doesn't feel very responsive , and the powertrain is often slow to respond. Other things, like stopping and turning, are about average.

When you lightly step on the gas, the XT4 stays quiet and is usually in the right gear. But more aggressive driving can damage the transmission if you try not to downshift or if you change too many gears at the same time.
The XT4 isn't Cadillac's best work because the ride is often tense, and the engine is loud. All four wheels are always shaking on roads that aren't the best, and there are bumps after bumps. This style is not suitable for a high-end SUV.

Luckily for us, the seats are comfortable for people of all shapes and sizes and have enough lumbar support. Even air flow keeps the cabin at the same temperature whether the front seats are heated or not (you can also heat the seats in the back). But the XT4's engine is loud and rough, and it makes a lot of noise at high speeds. It’s not up to the usual Cadillac standards.
The stylish and up-to-date interior of the XT4 makes a big impression. But some of the controls seem unnecessary or over the top, and they are hard to use without bugs and frustration. The controls on the dashboard are easy to use, but the buttons on the steering wheel and the knob for the media system are awkward.

The XT4's doors open wide, making it easy to get in and out of the car. Even though the back door openings aren't as big, there is plenty of room for your legs. Even without the optional panoramic sunroof, headroom in the back seat is a little tight, but two adults can sit comfortably. The front of the car feels open and airy, and it's easy to find a comfortable driving position that provides good visibility.
The space for bags is about average for the class. The split-back seats fold almost flat and give you more options. In the front, there are also a lot of small places to store drink bottles and other personal items. There are not many of them in the back.

Child seats are easy to put in because the car seat mounts are cleverly hidden under the leather upholstery and are easy to reach. Large seats that face the back may require taller drivers or front-seat passengers to slightly raise themselves. The XT4 can lift 3,500 pounds, which is about average for the class, with the help of a cheap optional towing package.
The XT4's infotainment system is quick, easy to understand, and clear. The built-in navigation system feels a bit like Android Auto, which is a good thing, and the optional Bose audio system sounds great even at high volumes. Standard features include integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as USB and USB-C ports. If you want to go cable-free, there is also a wireless charging pad and new wireless features for CarPlay and Android Auto. The main problem is that the multimedia control knob is awkward and unnecessary. It can only scroll and doesn't work on some menus.

The adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning work well and are not too sensitive. But Cadillac has decided to put these and other electronic driver assistance features into packages that aren't available on the base trim level. This is a letdown for a car of this type.
